kirstytannerAt Floor Coverings International of Henderson, we love bringing you creative insight and perspectives from bloggers who are kind enough to share their wisdom and how they got started. Today we have an interview with Kirsty Tanner, professional writer and DIY blogger at Kirsty Girl.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.

Hi, I’m Kirsty! These kinds of questions are always hard… I don’t want to sound 1 dimensional. I’m a professional writer and digital marketer and unlike others, doing what I love means there’s actually less time for outside interests like blogging outside of work, teaching my crazy kelpie new tricks, writing children’s novels, painting and homemaking but I still try!

2. Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?

Probably like most bloggers, I was a blog reader before I started blogging myself at Kirsty Girl. I drew so much inspiration from other DIYers and designers like Sarah at abeachcottage.com and Holly at 504main.com

I’d always wanted to be a writer but I was really young when I started and I didn’t have a genre yet. Actually, I probably still don’t. But I wanted to try out blogging for myself. I was also really into photography at the time, like most bloggers so that helped a lot.

3. How would you describe your design style?

I try not to because I can’t fit in a simple enough box. I’m a total mix. I love bloggers that have a really specific style and I’d love to be like them but if I’m honest, I’m just not. My design style is a mess. A total mix of eclectic, french provincial, shabby chic, 60’s Mad Men Retro, beachy and bohemian. Frankly, my dear, I just don’t give a damn. I like what I like and I do my best to find different styles and decades that compliment each other.

I’ve lived and loved in my new home for over 2 years now and it’s still a huge work in progress. We’ve barely begun! Especially since we added a Kelpie pup to our family as he likes to tear down wall paper. We’ll be painting soon!

4. Where do you find most of your inspiration?

Like most everyone reading this, I find much of my inspiration from other blogs and pinterest. Although I also love finding inspiration from television and movie sets. Think Mad Men, Gilmore Girls etc.

actually did a post about my love of Witchy homes in TV and movies a little while ago that I draw a lot of inspiration from for my own home. Witches have immense style!

5. Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.

I’m actually most proud of a completely unfinished project at the moment because it’s my biggest yet. I just hope it will live up to my expectations! I’m redoing a beautiful old pine bedroom dresser. It’s got large drawers and a carved mirror so it’s practical and beautiful.

Unfortunately I don’t find too much time to work on it but at the moment it’s being sanded right back. I stripped all the paint off it first, it was in pretty bad shape. It has a bit more life now but it still needs hours and hours of work.

As you can see my furry friends love it when I DIY too!diyinterview
